Somerset Academy Sky Canyon fifth graders visited the Las Vegas City Council this past Wednesday to receive the Great American Award. The nineteen fifth graders all lined up in front of Mayor Carolyn Goodman to recite one of the most well-known speeches in the nation’s history. Not only were there the fifth graders from Somerset Academy to recite the speeches, but over 100 students across the valley qualified for the award by fulfilling the following requirements:
- Writing the Pledge of Allegiance flawlessly
- Listing all U.S. presidents in chronological order
- Identifying all 50 states and their capitals
- Reciting the Gettysburg Address
- Performing the Star-Spangled Banner from memory
- Reciting the Preamble to the Constitution
These groups of students sure have a successful future ahead of them.
